Eric & Carrie: A "Green" Wedding in Forks

Posted by Holly-Kate Foss

When I received Carrie's phone call about helping her coordinate her wedding, I was thrilled!  Can you imagine getting married in a rain forest with mossy apple trees, an amazing family cabin, and large grassy field as a blank slate for their wedding ceremony & reception? It was a weekend that I will never forget!

Carrie Niskanen & Eric Vogelzang decided to get married at Carrie's Family Cabin located on the Bogachiel River in Forks Washington. Carrie grew up going on vacations to the family cabin and had so many fun memories of the home. They knew this was the special and unique place in which they wanted to get married.

They both love fishing, being "green", and devouring Organic & local food. They wanted to incorporate all of their favorite things in their celebration. They used Bambu dinner & dessert plates, which are 100% bamboo and Certified Organic. These products are fabulous for so many reasons; they are a natural brown color and they biodegrade in about 4-6 months. The food HAD to be organic, delicious and memorable. So, they decided to work with In Seasoned Catering. Beth Johnson created an amazing menu for the celebration which was comprised of a northwest themed menu of fresh & local eats. Starting with smoked salmon, fruit and cheese. The menu for dinner was loaded with grilled salmon, rosemary flank steak, hearty greens and summer vegetables. I have never seen so many people go back for seconds!

What is it like getting married in a rain forest? It is beautiful, for one. The trees and weather were fantastic. During the set up of the wedding, there was a fog that surrounded us. Then by late afternoon, the sun was above us for a breathtaking ceremony. The guests arrived and were asked to follow a small path, that lead to the rivers edge. They sat on hay bails and had plenty of time to take in their surroundings. Then the wedding began…

All the guests were invited to enjoy Happy Hour under the apple trees. Guests were served local microbrew, wine and lavender infused vodka lemonade.

I really enjoyed working with Eric & Carrie, but most of all I loved getting to know their family and friends. They had a great celebration hidden in the forest of a little town called: Forks

Eric & Carrie, Thank you for letting me be a part of your special day!

(It must be said, for some of you Twlight fans out there, no we did not encounter any vampires...but we might have spotted a few werewolves in the woods.)

Fabulous Vendors that Eric & Carrie selected for their special day:
